Iraqi Freedom - Oxymoronic

Sun Apr 27, 2008 at 01:54:58 PM PDT

A father barbarically kills his own daughter, with the help of his two sons, her brothers... while the mother looked on, unable to stop it.  The girl's crime was she fell in love with a British soldier in Basra.

The father was arrested, and then released two hours later...

because it was an "honour killing". And, unfortunately, that is something to be proud of for any Iraqi man.'

Thank You sarahlane

Wed Jan 30, 2008 at 07:47:41 AM PDT

For your inspiration and relentless support of John Edwards.   I don't know you, never met you, but you have inspired me, and taught me quite a lot of things, and not just about John Edwards.

This may not be appropriate for a diary, I'm not sure, but I wanted to thank you and give others, so inclined, an opportunity to thank you for all you've contributed to John Edwards' campaign and all the information and heartfelt discussion and diaries you brought here to DKos.

$140 billion – Healthcare for All

Fri Jan 18, 2008 at 03:32:09 PM PDT

If you had $140 billion and wanted to help peoplekind, how would you spend it?
I got to thinking... Let’s say instead of using $140 billion taxpayer dollars to mail checks to taxpayers, and give tax breaks to corporations... What say we use that $140 billion to jump-start Universal Healthcare?  I have a few ideas to start the discussion with, and if you care to follow below the fold, we can all collaborate and come up with a plan to give to our Democratic Representatives and Senators to propose this month.

Updated: Gang-Rape Cover-Up by U.S., Halliburton / KBR

Mon Dec 10, 2007 at 12:23:15 PM PDT

Jamie Leigh Jones, now 22, says that after she was raped by multiple men at a KBR camp in the Green Zone, the company put her under guard in a shipping container with a bed and warned her that if she left Iraq for medical treatment, she'd be out of a job.

I'm just going to add a few blockquotes with a link to the story. She was drugged, raped multiple times, and held captive.  Will the perpetrators pay?  Nope.  More snippets below the fold.

Hoyer and Pelosi Reward Themselves With More Days Off

Sat Oct 27, 2007 at 05:28:11 PM PDT

Hoyer and Pelosi think they have done such a good job this year, so they will reward themselves by giving the House members every Friday off next year, except for June.  Umm... 52 weeks and one Friday in each week.  I wonder what that adds up to... minus the holidays that are already scheduled.

Apparently, their days of working hard for the American people have been accomplished, so there's no need to exert themselves anymore.

Bush Won't Support Interpol (60 Minutes)

Mon Oct 08, 2007 at 10:52:20 AM PDT

Ron Noble runs the global police organization called Interpol.  I was shocked, shocked, really, to learn that for all the bravado and bloviating Bush and his administration does, not to mention invading the wrong country, that the United States only pays 5.5 million dollars to Interpol towards fighting the "global war on terror" and has not one person from Homeland Security working at the Interpol office, even though Interpol’s staff is made up from law enforcement agencies, on loan, from 58 countries.

The link at the end of this diary will click through to the video and transcript.

Springsteen: Silence Is Unpatriotic (60 Minutes)

Sun Oct 07, 2007 at 07:54:26 PM PDT

I first commented in an open thread, but thought this deserved its own diary, just to make sure you didn't miss The Boss on 60 Minutes.  Bruce spoke to our new foreign relations guy Scott Pelley (remember that interview with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad) like I wish our democratic elected officials would.  Bruce is The Man... Our Man.

Bush's Dream Team

Sat Sep 29, 2007 at 04:04:11 PM PDT

I wanted some information about the Medal of Freedom, as I was going to post and suggest that our upcoming democratic president award Seymour Hersh the Medal of Freedom, especially after reading Turkana's diary. And so I came upon this hilarious, supposedly serious Medal of Freedom website.  See if you agree with the anonymous owner's interpretation of the history of Bush and his Dream Team.

Fire Norah O'Donnell and Rehire

Mon Sep 24, 2007 at 09:51:37 PM PDT

It’s time that MSNBC fired Norah O'Donnell as a correspondent and anchor and rehire her as a republican pundit.  Norah "interviewed" three guests on MSNBC today regarding Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's visit to Columbia University:  Bill Richardson, Ervand Abrahamian, and Pat Buchanan.  She was desperately trying to get at least one of her guests to agree with her republican talking points, that it was an abomination that Ahmadinejad was given a forum at Columbia University, but no one would, as hard as she might try.  By the third interview inquisition, Norah tried to change the description of Pat Buchanan's job in order to achieve her goal.  She did nothing but quote republican figures in order to browbeat her guests.
