So, why's the Anthrax attacker still walking free?

Thu Jul 03, 2008 at 01:29:52 PM PDT

Today is July 3rd, 2008 and it has been 2481 days since the first letters with Anthrax were believed to have been mailed out.

To this day, nobody has been brought to justice for the attacks, for which 5 people were killed, 23 infected, and a wave of panic swept across the country and the world.

George W. Bush pretends that there have been no attacks on American soil since 9/11, and many people are repeating and believing this, hook, line, and sinker.

8 years of Republican rhetoric about being 'strong in the fight against terrorism', and somewhere in America, a bioterrorist is walking free, perhaps with more Anthrax to be used at his disposal -- and yet, Republicans have the audacity to play the national security card during this election, for which in all intents and purposes, is a referendum on their failure to protect and strengthen this country.

Keep asking the question this election season -- If Republicans are so strong on national security, then why is the Anthrax attacker still walking free?

This issue needs to be dredged to the surface to further question the Republicans' credibility. They are simply not credible or qualified to protect this country. Barack, are you listening?

a friendly reminder of today

Sat Jun 28, 2008 at 10:05:21 AM PDT

Today is June 28th, 2008.

It is day 2717 of the Bush presidency.

It is day 2483 of the Hunt for Osama Bin Laden and Mullah Omar.

It is day 2476 of the search for the Anthrax attackers.

It has been 2438 days since the enactment of the Patriot Act.

It has been 2211 days since Jose Padilla was designated an enemy combatant. (MaskedKat)

It is day 1927 of the illegal occupation of Iraq, and weapons of mass destruction have yet to be found.

It has been 1885 days since the declaration of Mission Accomplished.

It has been 1811 days since CIA Agent Valerie Plame was outed.

It has been 1502 days since Condoleeza Rice admitted to the 9-11 commission that there was a PDA entitled "Bin Laden Determined to Attack in the US" (MaskedKat)

It has been 1036 days since Hurricane Katrina made landfall.

It has been 869 days since Vice President Dick Cheney shot Harry Whittington in the face. (MaskedKat)

It has been 543 days since the Democrats have taken control of congress.

It is 206 days until Bush can no longer be President, according to the Constitution, a document he holds in such high regard.

Just some food for thought.

Rush Limbaugh: the objective in Denver is riots

Thu Apr 24, 2008 at 03:55:17 PM PDT

Operation Chaos continues to churn along! Rush Limbaugh states on air that he wants to be able to cause RIOTS at the Democratic National Convention in Denver this August.

Lee Hamilton also doesn't know what call Mukasey was referencing

Tue Apr 08, 2008 at 01:02:05 PM PDT

A short diary this time: Glenn Greenwald got a response back from 9/11 Commission Vice Chairman Lee Hamilton in regards to Michael Mukasey's speech at the Commonwealth Club in San Jose on March 27th:

a perfect storm is taking hold over the Bush administration

Sat Apr 05, 2008 at 01:55:05 PM PDT

Suffice to say, it was an exciting week!

While I was expecting Olbermann and Maddow's report on April Fool's Day about Mukasey's verbal trainwreck to be a sick prank on my mind, the public glimmer of, and even if it was just a temporary mirage in the sea of election politics, of a Bush administration so incompetent it was criminally negligent for failing to prevent 9/11 served as a stark reminder to everyone that, if anything, this man is still in office!

UPDATED x5: Mukasey's referenced pre-9/11 call in speech NOT IN 9/11 REPORT!

Wed Apr 02, 2008 at 01:04:33 PM PDT

Attorney General Michael Mukasey's trip to San Jose to speak to telecom leaders last week seems to have gone almost completely under the radar:

An Open Note to Howard Dean about Operation Chaos

Sat Mar 22, 2008 at 12:22:07 PM PDT

It's become crystal clear to many of us that one of the single biggest dividing forces in the Democratic party right now is not either one of our two candidates, Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton, but a subversive group of fake Hillary Clinton supporters that are acolytes of talk show host Rush Limbaugh.

Their plan -- called 'Operation Chaos' -- speaks for itself as to the objectives of their agenda, which is to undermine and fracture the Democratic party in order to give the Republicans a fighting chance this coming election. If you don't quite understand all of this, check out his show transcripts to see how subversive his plan really is.

If anything, I hope this makes this very real issue apparent to people that would have ordinarily not given thought to this! I also cannot wait until the inevitable mainstream media spin as an "unpatriotic film"!

Planned Planned Parenthood smear campaign underway! Please help!

Mon Mar 03, 2008 at 07:25:37 AM PDT

UCLA Law student and Rutgers University alum James O'Keefe calls up Planned Parenthood in Idaho and Ohio in order to engineer Rush Limbaugh a talking point to say that Planned Parenthood has a policy of 'insitutionalized racism'.

Bill O'Reilly: The Opera!!

Mon Feb 18, 2008 at 11:11:29 AM PDT

Apologies for this not being an 'official' diary, but this is way too good to pass up:

Excerpt from "Mackris v. O'Reilly", a baroque oratorio composed by Igor Keller. Libretto uses verbatim transcript of sexual harassment complaint brought against Bill O'Reilly in 2004.

It kind of makes you want to sing alot of things in opera form, doesn't it?

An Open Letter to Sir Charles Barkley

Sun Feb 17, 2008 at 09:50:12 AM PDT

Dear Charles,

For someone who was a childhood idol to me growing up, I have to say that I was infinitely pleased to hear your utter smackdown of the contingent of the Republican party that is destroying America.

a ghost of christmas future

Mon Dec 24, 2007 at 10:10:58 PM PDT

It goes without saying this has been a terrible year. All things considered, we had a lot of hope going in after taking back Congress, only to find out we really hadn't taken it back at all save a few awesome representatives. But I digress, because this past year is not what I really want to talk about.

GA- Sonny Perdue to seek waterboarding ban

Tue Nov 06, 2007 at 08:18:08 AM PDT

In a move that critics say came out of left field, the state of Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue, a Republican, announced today that he would immediately seek a ban on all forms of waterboarding in the state of Georgia.

"At this time of the drought crisis, we all must make many sacrifices to help our great state triumph through this looming threat," said Perdue. "We must put a stop to waterboarding, as it is a waste of fine water better suited for healthy consumption."

Ahmadinejad Columbia liveblog, anyone?

Mon Sep 24, 2007 at 11:13:49 AM PDT

Since there doesn't seem to be a diary yet for this, I'll start one.

Currently Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is in his opening remarks. Lee Bollinger got done laying into him, and when I say that I mean he ripped him apart. For all the right wing media did in hyping up his appearance as Columbia University 'appeasing evil', he did a much better job at criticizing Ahmadinejad, to his face no less, than anyone I've ever seen.

The appearance is being broadcast on CSPAN 3 along with the cable news outlets.

Here's your f***in' hate site, Bill!

Tue Jul 24, 2007 at 06:51:15 PM PDT

I have to be honest: I severely dislike Bill O’Reilly. I don’t hate him, but boy do I pity him, a lot. It takes a very pathetic, hateful person to be able to willfully lie to millions of people day in and day out for decades.

When I read that Bill called Daily Kos a hate site, I laughed for a very long time. I may have laughed like a mad scientist in the course of the read, because it read as funnier than an Onion article. Just because Daily Kos, a site that with an open-source format that just so happens to be part of the most egalitarian form of discourse ever created, happens to discredit Bill and his network at every stage of what they report, doesn’t mean that we’re a hate site. I’m sure it frustrates, even enrages him, that he doesn’t have the control over news and the minds of the people that he once had. It probably even drives him to the hatred he spews.
