We Did It! "Netroots" Enters the Dictionary

Today, Merriam-Webster unveiled the newest one hundred or so words to be added to its Collegiate Dictionary.  And included on the list of words now recognized officially by the American dictionary of record: netroots!

Here's the official definition of the word "netroots":

Function: noun plural
Date: 2003

: the grassroots political activists who communicate via the Internet especially by blogs

Also included on the list of newly-recognized words: wingnut!

Main Entry: wing nut
Function: noun
Date: circa 1900

1 a nut with wings that provide a grip for the thumb and finger
2 slang : a mentally deranged person
3 slang : one who advocates extreme measures or changes : radical
